Digital Communication
The FCC has required that public safety systems transition to 12.5 kHz-wide channels by January 2013. By January 2011, equipment vendors must develop equipment capable of operating on 6.25 kHz-wide channels.
To meet that demand, manufacturers are developing new digital communications equipment capable of operating within the specified frequency range. Digital technologies also provide a host of software-based features and capabilities not previously available with analogue systems, such as extensive programmability and DSP-based voice technology for greatly improved audio quality. |
